Petersfield Ladies 1 Winchester Ladies II 5: PETERSFIELD Hockey Club’s ladies’ first team faced the league leaders, Winchester Ladies’ second team, on Saturday at their home ground at Bedales School.

Petersfield went into the match as underdogs, positioned in mid-table in the Hampshire Division 3 (Women) table and with no substitutes available.

The first half was hard fought with Petersfield playing a fast and fluid game to match their rivals.

The Sinclair sisters worked closely to link up attacks into the opposition’s D, finding a foot that created the first attacking short corner. A fast first runner for Winchester meant it was an unsuccessful attempt for Petersfield, however, it wasn’t long before Rymer found another defender’s foot in the D to keep the pressure on.

A few quick breaks from Winchester were enough, however, to take the home side down and give the visitors a 3-0 lead at the end of the first half.

The hosts went into the second half with nothing to lose and worked from the back to create chances for the forward line of Rymer, Sinclair and Bardo.

A transfer around the back from Presnell to Kelly opened up the game to allow Sinclair a one-on-one with the opposition’s keeper, flicking it over her shoulder and into the back of net.

Winchester scored two more goals of their own in the second half though to run out 5-1 winners.

Petersfield’s next match is away to Waterside Ladies on Saturday.
