Petersfield Ladies 1 Romsey Ladies II 5: PETERSFIELD Ladies’ first team hosted Romsey Ladies’ second team on Saturday.

When the sides met earlier in the season Romsey, who are second in the league table, ran out comfortable 6-0 winners.

Romsey had first push back to start the game and it was immediately apparent how well drilled they were.

The visitors passed the ball around and waited for an opening in the Petersfield midfield.

Romsey were quick to convert their first opportunity and take the lead, and their continued pressure and textbook set plays challenged the home team throughout the first half.

Three more goals followed and Romsey led 4-0 at half time.

Petersfield opted to modify their line up for the second half and this allowed them to cut out the visitors’ breaks down the centre and force Romsey to the wings.

The home team found their rhythm and, despite the high intensity of the game, took the attack back to Romsey’s defence.

Petersfield had a flurry of near misses as they pushed for their first goal. The hosts went close to scoring several times, including a shot over the keeper’s shoulder which hit the bar and bounced down in front of the line.

The goal finally arrived when Jen Sinclair received the ball on the attacking 25 and beat three players before hammering the ball into the back of the net.

Romsey also scored in the second half and the match finished 5-1 to the visitors.
