Romsey Ladies II 2 Petersfield Ladies 2: PETERSFIELD Ladies’ first team faced Romsey Ladies’ second team in their last game before Christmas.
Petersfield dominated the game in the first half and applied constant pressure on the Romsey defence. Their strength in attack paid off and Eddy scored two good goals before half time.
In the second half Petersfield were again strong in attack. Sinclair, Hedges and Ivey all had tremendous shots on goal. However, the Romsey keeper pulled off many spectacular saves that denied the Petersfield side any more goals in the first quarter of the second half.
Romsey had adopted a different team formation in the second half and this paid dividends. They scored their first goal from a well-practised short corner routine.
They then scored their second goal by breaking through the Petersfield defence, which was playing slightly too high up the pitch.
The Romsey centre went one-on-one with Petersfield keeper May and the striker lifted the ball high and it flew into the Petersfield goal.
Both teams pushed for a winner and attacked and counter attacked each other for the last 15 minutes of the game. Petersfield’s Hedges pushed the ball to the top of the D where Harris hit the ball into the back of the net.
A jubilant Petersfield ran back to the halfway line, but their joy was short lived when the goal was contested and then disallowed. Neither of the teams managed to get that elusive third goal.
Petersfield are in second position in the league table.
