Havant Ladies III 1 Petersfield Ladies 2: PETERSFIELD Ladies’ first team faced Havant Ladies’ third team in the opening match of the Hampshire Trophy Cup on Sunday.

Petersfield lost 3-1 in their previous encounter against Havant in the league.

The away side started brightly and made a fast start. Crosses from both wings were narrowly missed by attackers but despite not converting, the ability to make the chances kept Petersfield’s energy up.

Havant went on the attack but Petersfield’s defenders saw off the threat and the visitors took the lead when Rymer scored.

Petersfield led 1-0 at half time, and the visitors started the second half well.

It wasn’t long before the ball was passed across the D to find Rymer behind the goalkeeper, and she knocked the ball home to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

Fitness was Petersfield’s biggest battle and as the minutes ticked by Havant started to create more chances.

Havant were awarded a short corner and they flicked the ball neatly over the goalkeeper’s head but a remarkable save on the line by Bradley kept Petersfield in the lead.

Havant pulled a goal back to make it 2-1, but the visitors managed to keep their cool despite the pressure building at the end of the game.

Petersfield held on to win the game 2-1, and they will compete in the quarter finals of the Hampshire Trophy Cup on Sunday, March 11.

Petersfield’s next match is at home to United Services Portsmouth on Saturday.
