Fleet & Ewshot Ladies II 9 Petersfield Ladies II 0: PETESFIELD’S ladies’ second team crashed to a comprehensive 9-0 defeat at Fleet and Ewshot’s ladies’ second team on Saturday.
It proved to be a very challenging game for Petersfield, who came up against a very well drilled and efficient Fleet and Ewshot team.
The home side hit the post in the first minute, and the pressure was constant throughout, with Fleet and Ewshot’s crisp and direct passes opening up the Petersfield defence on a number of occasions.
The home side were very clinical and well drilled with their short corner routines, with the majority of their goals either coming straight from a short corner or from the resulting play.
A goal-line clearance from Kate Day and a diving save from Carys Pearson and clearance by Jenny Payne could not stem the goals as it was 5-0 to the home side by half time.
There was further pressure from Fleet and Ewshot after the break, but Petersfield had their best period of the game in the second half.
The visitors went close to scoring through a well worked short corner to Debbie Geer following some good work from debutante Cassia Faithfull, and then when Laura Choularton had a breakaway effort on goal only for a good diving save to be made by the Fleet and Ewshot goalkeeper.
Pearson continued to bark out the orders in defence, but the difference in class showed as Fleet and Ewshot scored a further four goals in the second half in what was a very disappointing day for Petersfield’s ladies’ second team.
Petersfield need to re-group this week, as they will host Bournemouth’s ladies’ fifth team in their next match on Saturday, November 2.
