PETERSFIELD Hockey Club’s ladies’ second team lost 4-0 at Winchester Ladies’ fourth team on Saturday.
The visitors came into the game with a lot of confidence after winning their previous game, and they started the game the better team.
Petersfield started with only nine players but quickly had an attacking short corner in the first few minutes, only to see it well cleared.
The hosts soon took the lead following a break into the Petersfield D by two Winchester attackers and a good shot into the bottom left corner of the goal past a diving Carys.
Petersfield were up to ten players, but Winchester hit the post and won a series of short corners which were well defended by the Petersfield defence. Belinda Jones made a number of interceptions and clearances to deny the hosts.
Winchester scored their second goal after a shot was well saved by a diving Carys, with the rebound falling to a Winchester attacker who slotted the ball home.
Although Winchester were 2-0 up, the game was very evenly matched with both sides fighting for possession.
Laura Choularton and Zoe Simmonds linked up well at the end of the first half for Petersfield’s best chance, only to see the ball go wide of the goal.
The second half was very much like the first and was a midfield battle, with Winchester having the better of the attacking chances.
Lauren Preston, with several diving defence clearances, couldn’t stop Winchester adding a further two goals as the home side ran out 4-0 winners at the final whistle.
