Fareham Ladies III 2 Petersfield Ladies II 2: PETERSFIELD Ladies’ second team knew that only a seven-goal defeat could halt their promotion chances, but the team wanted to battle for first place.

Both teams started evenly with each side taking and giving away several opportunities. Goalkeeper Clarke made a brave and faultless save from a flick and this set Petersfield up for another attack. This time O’Kelly managed to convert before the Fareham defence had arrived. Fareham fought back and gained the upper hand on Petersfield. A mistake from the Petersfield defence allowed the hosts to equalise just before half time.

The second half proved as much of a struggle as the first. Petersfield took the lead again after a short corner shot by Broome rebounded off the Fareham goalkeeper. Shortly afterwards Petersfield were reduced to ten players after a player was carded. This gave Fareham the opportunity to press and a short corner was awarded. Fareham flicked the ball in the net to equalise. Petersfield defended strongly to keep Fareham from another scoring opportunity, but as Fareham did the same the match finished level. A draw was all Petersfield needed to win the league.

Petersfield Ladies’ second team have now won their division twice in a row.
