United Services Portsmouth Ladies 2 Petersfield Ladies 1: PETERSFIELD Ladies’ first team travelled away to United Services Portsmouth Ladies’ first team.

Play dominated the centre of the pitch for the first ten minutes as both teams battled to break the defensive lines.

A deflection off the back line from the keeper awarded Petersfield a long corner. Easton took the free-hit quickly and carried the ball into the D for a shot, but was penalised before striking for not carrying the ball five metres.

The hosts then got behind Petersfield’s midfield and a powerful strike from just outside the Petersfield 25-metre line was deflected upwards by a Petersfield stick and bounced in favour of the United Services Portsmouth forward who was poised in front of goal and tapped it over the keeper’s knee.

The hosts led 1-0 at half time, but Petersfield started the second half well and dominated possession and held the game up in the home side’s half of the pitch.

As Petersfield pushed higher up the pitch to add pressure the home team used the opportunity to feed a high ball up the wing. A pass across the top of the D for a quick shot unbalanced Petersfield’s keeper and it deflected up into the left-hand corner of the goal.

Petersfield continued to attack and they were eventually rewarded when Jen Sinclair took the ball past the keeper and knocked it into the back of the goal.

Petersfield will host Southampton Ladies’ third team this Saturday (2.45pm).
