United Services Portsmouth Ladies 2 Petersfield Ladies 1: PETERSFIELD Ladies’ first team played away at United Services Portsmouth Ladies’ first team on Saturday.
Both teams worked up and down the pitch tirelessly for 25 minutes before United Services Portsmouth managed to break up the Petersfield defence from a free hit outside the D and slip the ball past the keeper to open the scoring. At half time Petersfield were 1-0 down.
After half time the rain didn’t relent as heavier showers poured down.
Petersfield opted for a change in formation, and it seemed to be a successful tactic as the visitors were awarded three short corners in quick succession.
Hedges was denied a goal by the post as the ball shot behind the goalkeeper from a reverse hit.
Petersfield kept the tempo high and pushed higher up the pitch, but this drive forward exposed their defensive line and United Services Portsmouth were awarded a short corner.
A quick slap hit from the top of the circle beat the keeper and United Services Portsmouth went 2-0 up.
Undeterred by the weather and 2-0 deficit, Petersfield continued to battle and worked their way up the right wing.
Llewelyn linked to Easton who fed through to Daines in right midfield, and she found O’Kelly the on right wing who fed the ball into Hedges on the base line.
Hedges slipped it back to O’Kelly who smashed it from the D and beat the keeper with five minutes to spare to make it 2-1.
