Alton II 7 Petersfield III 2: THE WEATHER did not look promising for the lunchtime match at local rivals Alton.

Petersfield Ladies’ third team quickly conceded their first goal within the first few minutes. It became clear that Alton had a few strong players and the new Petersfield team were going to be stretched. Petersfield battled to score and had a lot of time in the attacking half, however a break from Alton tested the defenders once more. Hardwick, Rymer and Harding fought hard, but were not able to keep the ball out of the goal. Petersfield won a short corner and a lovely finish from Geer gave Petersfield their first goal. Alton responded with two more goals before the break.

The second half was more memorable for the heavy rain and gale-force winds than for the hockey skills. Alton scored another two goals before Petersfield had even created a chance. Bardoe then drove the ball into the attacking D and made a shot for goal. The goalie managed to save the ball, but Bardoe got the rebound and scored her first league goal for the club. Shortly before full time Alton gained a short corner and scored their seventh of the match.
