Havant III 3 Petersfield 2: AFTER a resounding victory the weekend before, Petersfield were looking for more of the same against Havant’s third team on Saturday.

The home side started strongly and played a very high press, but Petersfield absorbed the pressure well and battled for possession against a strong Havant side.

After a hard first ten minutes and some fine saves from keeper Smith from penalty corners, Petersfield started to produce some good attacking play and began to apply their own press against the opposition.

Hughes-Stanton, Grey and Vickers combined to produce a well-worked move for the visitors and Edney scored to give Petersfield a 1-0 lead at half time.

Petersfield came out strongly after the break and applied more pressure to the home side. Havant responded with a high press and won several penalty corners, but they were denied a goal by some impressive defensive work.

Havant then caught Petersfield on the break, which resulted in captain Clay being yellow carded for a push in the back. A penalty corner was awarded and Havant scored to make it 1-1.

Alder took a nasty ball to the head which took him out for the rest of the game, and the home side soon scored their second and third goals.

Petersfield continued to battle away and were rewarded for their efforts when Hughes-Stanton slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 3-2. Petersfield continued to create chances, but they were unable to find an equaliser.
