Petersfield 6 Petersfield Veterans 2: PETERSFIELD’S first team stepped up their preparations for the new season with a friendly against Petersfield Veterans.
In the first half the first team had a fairly solid structure as they zipped the ball around the pitch.
The veterans also had their moments though and forced some penalty corners.
Lee Harris, Peter Lane and Patrick Edwards created chances and veterans keeper Mark Broadmeadow was constantly under pressure.
New recruit Niall Gray impressed, and Daniel Grinstead and Josh Edney commanded the midfield, while Luke Hawkins, Tom Harding, Will Atkinson and Tim Clay remained solid.
At the end of the first half it was 4-0 to the first team thanks to goals from Harris and Lane.
The first team started the second half well and made it 5-0.
The move for the fifth goal started in defence and featured a string of passes before ending up in the goal.
The veterans pulled a goal back though after being awarded a penalty flick after Paul Vickers used his face to stop the deflected ball when stood on the post.
The veterans then added another when new keeper Alexander Smith made a fine first save but the rebound was confidently tucked away to make it 5-2.
The summer had caught up with the first team squad as legs and fitness began to dwindle, but Gray scored a cracker of a goal to make it 6-2 and complete the scoring for the day.
