Petersfield 3 Wimborne Wayferers II 2: PETERSFIELD welcomed Wimborne Wayfarers’ second team on Saturday.

Wimborne were gifted an opportunity from centre-back Alder, but keeper Ross came out on top to keep the scores level within the first two minutes. From this moment Wimborne increased the pressure with a high press and created numerous chances which were either broken down by the Petersfield defence, well saved by Ross or off target.

Petersfield however had their chances too which involved a handful of penalty corners and counters which were broken down by the Wimborne defence. Wimborne were rewarded with a goal after their winger was left unmarked in space, and they made it 2-0 from a penalty corner before the break.

Petersfield came back to life after a change of structure and attacked the heart of Wimborne with pace down the wings and effective pass and move plays through the centre of the pitch. Petersfield stole a goal back with a drag flick to the top right corner from Harris. Petersfield soon equalised as Grinstead picked up possession and drove forward with the ball past three players, distributing to Martin, who linked-up with Harris to deflect the ball past the keeper for the equalising goal.

Wimborne set up a high press once again, winning a handful of penalty corners and causing frustration as Alder was sent to the sinbin for receiving a green card. Petersfield scrapped through being a player down and stepped the play up a gear when back to full strength.

Petersfield took the lead with five minutes to go when Harris found Tate free on the far post, who deflected the ball into the top left corner past an unmoved goalkeeper. Petersfield immediately bolstered their defensive options and played the ball, around keeping possession until the final whistle to claim a 3-2 victory from a hard-fought match.

Petersfield remain in the promotional spot, one point clear of third place with a game in hand. Next week’s fixture sees Petersfield travel away to ninth-placed Fleet and Ewshot, where another victory will be the objective.
