Petersfield 1 Yateley II 2: PETERSFIELD were aiming for a win against Yateley to keep their promotion hopes alive.
The hosts started the game with electrifying pace and found themselves 1-0 up within the first two minutes when Atkinson was in space in the circle and smashed the ball home. Petersfield kept up the momentum and created many chances, with the closest effort hitting the post. Atkinson was sent to the sin bin for a challenge from behind, and the visitors then took control of the game. Petersfield defended well around their circle and held on to the break.
A challenge from behind on Grinstead and preventing a goal scoring opportunity saw Yateley receive two yellow cards, but Petersfield failed to capitalise on this. The visitors launched a counter attack and Edwards and R Thompson were both sent to the sin bin. The hosts were down to nine players and were soon undone when Yateley equalised after a handful of penalty corners. With the advantage of having two extra men Yateley attacked Petersfield with an overload of players and won a string of penalty corners as the hosts could not mark every free man. The visitors scored a second goal from a penalty corner and then missed a penalty flick which was saved by keeper Ross. Petersfield pushed up the field but were unable to find an equaliser.
Petersfield remain in second place and face Hamble’s second team at home at noon on Saturday.
