Chichester III 4 Petersfield 3: PETERSFIELD returned from the Christmas break with an away fixture against second-placed Chichester.

Petersfield went straight on the attack and were awarded a penalty corner when Edwards was fouled.

Clay unleashed a powerful strike through the oncoming defence and goalkeeper to give the visitors the lead.

Chichester swiftly responded, but Petersfield were able to deny the hosts.

Petersfield then went back on the attack but were prevented from doubling their advantage by the Chichester goalkeeper. Chichester responded again and scored two goals to take the lead.

Petersfield reacted positively and were soon back on level terms. With four passes of the ball Petersfield found themselves straight back in the game after a diving goal by Hughes-Stanton, assisted by Edwards.

Both teams changed tactics and played a reserved, possession style until the first half ended with the two teams level at 2-2.

Petersfield began the second half off the pace, and with slick passing Chichester had enough space in the circle to retake the lead.

The hosts had the momentum and extended their lead after tapping in a rebound after the initial strike on goal was saved by Petersfield goalkeeper Smith.

The visitors upped the pace of their play and the ball struck a Chichester foot in the circle. Rye took advantage and sent the ball into the goal at the near post.

Petersfield pushed for an equaliser, but Chichester held on for the win.
