Havant under-13s 35 Petersfield under-13s 40: AFTER starting the season with three wins on the trot, Petersfield’s under-13s travelled to local rivals Havant.

Field did not get off to a good start as Havant’s huge centres tore through the defence to score three tries in quick succession. Two Field players were hurt in this phase of play and ruled out for the rest of the match.

With only two substitutes left on the bench it looked like Field were in for a long, very bad day at the office.

However, instead of letting their heads go down, Field’s young stars puffed out their chests and got stuck in.

The first sign of a comeback was in some good scrummaging, which secured ball for the Field backs.

With possession assured, the backs began to dictate play as they had in the side’s previous matches.

As quickly as they had conceded three tries, Field scored four – one a storming run from Griffin down the wing. Palmer also got on the scoresheet, along with Carey who bagged a brace.

The second half was end-to-end with Havant fighting back with their big runners only for Field to counter with scores of their own – another brace from Carey and a run through the middle from Willson.

With only a couple of minutes left Bloomer scored Field’s eighth try to make the score 40-30, but Havant’s forwards narrowed the gap to within one try. Field’s resolve never wavered, however, and with grit and determination they kept Havant at bay to run out 40-35 winners.
