PETERSFIELD Rugby Club’s under-nines won the Plate competition at the Hampshire under-nines County Championship tournament at Petersfield Rugby Club

Field’s under-nines began their pool matches with a comfortable 5-0 win against US Portsmouth, before losing 5-2 against Romsey.

Despite the disappointment, heads remained high and Field came out firing for their must-win last pool game against Overton. A fine 5-1 victory sent Field into the knock-out rounds.

Field met Farnborough in the Plate semi final and the tries kept on coming. A 5-2 win for Field sent them into the final against Gosport and Fareham. Another good team performance secured Field a 2-1 victory and the 2016 under-nines Hampshire Plate.

The boys’ confidence and understanding visibly grew throughout the competition.

A drop out by a visiting team led to a quickly put together Barbarians team of Field players.

The Barbarians faced some tough opposition but still managed to progress to the semi finals of the shield and also had the glory of being the only team to score a try against the overall county champions, Alton.
