Petersfield 3 Havant III 4: PETERSFIELD hosted Havant’s third team at Bedales on Saturday afternoon, and a close match was expected between the local rivals.

Both teams tried to attack and create chances early on, but both sides defended well to keep the scores level.

Havant broke the deadlock when the ball was squeezed past the Petersfield defence and goalkeeper.

Petersfield responded well and created a number of chances.

The home side tested the Havant defence before scoring twice as the half came to a close, with goals from Harris and Hughes-Stanton giving Petersfield a 2-1 lead at half time.

In the second half Havant forced a number of fouls from the home side.

The visitors got themselves back on level terms at 2-2 when they scored from a penalty corner routine.

Petersfield regained the lead with a deflected goal after a three-pass combination involving Grinstead, Harris and Hughes-Stanton.

Havant responded well and used possession effectively, keeping the ball away from the Petersfield players.

Petersfield were undone twice as loose marking became costly, with the visitors scoring two goals to win the match 4-3.

The defeat means Petersfield have fallen into fifth place in the Hampshire Division 1 table.

Petersfield will be looking to return to winning ways this Saturday when they travel to Bournemouth’s second team, who are in third place in the Hampshire Division 1 table.
