Winchester III 4 Petersfield 1: PETERSFIELD travelled away to Winchester in their second fixture of the season on the back of beating Southampton University 5-4 the previous week.

J Alder was the closest to score for Petersfield in the first half after close control in the circle allowed him to shoot from close range, but he was denied by the post.

Winchester’s efforts were rewarded after a successful penalty corner routine to take the lead 1-0.

Petersfield’s Edwards was then sin-binned for his challenge on the goalkeeper in his desperation to steal the ball. During the time Petersfield were down to ten men, and W Atkinson obtained a sin-bin also, putting further pressure on the Petersfield team to withstand the waves of attack from Winchester.

Petersfield defended well as a unit and keeper Ross made an exceptional stick save to keep Petersfield in the game at half time.

The second half, with Petersfield returning to the field with all 11 men, saw much of the same from both sides. Petersfield hit the post with an effort from J Atkinson along with further attempts from the attack saved by the Winchester keeper.

Winchester extended their lead with another successful penalty corner routine before adding another goal to their tally with a well worked team goal.

Petersfield pulled a goal back when Hughes-Stanton’s through ball allowed J Atkinson to run freely at an oncoming goalkeeper and slot the ball past him. Petersfield were unable to score again as the home side won 4-1.
