PETERSFIELD Squash Club have held their annual junior closed tournament.
The juniors have all been attending regular junior practise sessions on Mondays at the Taro Leisure Centre and Wednesdays at Herne Farm Leisure Centre.
The juniors are coached by England Squash Level 2 coaches Malcolm Peters and Jonathan Graham.
Twelve competitors were placed by seed order into the main event cup knockout, with first round losers moving into the plate.
More than two hours of squash produced the finalists of Alex Fardon and last year’s winner Brandon Wells. Wells claimed the title, beating the much-improved Fardon 3-0.
Max Hammond met Joe Prendergast in the final of the plate.
Hammond and Prendergast exchanged many forehand rallies, with the advantage staying with Prendergast throughout the match.
His serving gave him the edge, with Hammond’s retrieving game not enough to prevent Prendergast from winning 2-1.
Other participants, Ben Pratt, Trystan Birthwhistle, Zac Harris and Beth Walker, had exciting matches.
Petersfield mayor Jamie Matthews presented the prizes. Additional awards went to Prendergast and Walker for best sportsperson, while James Graham and Daniel Sampson received most improved player awards.
An additional five-point tournament was run at the same time, with James Graham winning the bag of sweets.
