PETERSFIELD Table Tennis Club continues to go from strength to strength.

The club, which is based at the rugby club clubhouse at Penns Place, first opened its doors over a year ago.

The club has been a huge success, signing up more than 50 members with ages ranging from nine to 80-years-old, including 17 junior members and more than 35 adult members.

The club entered five teams in the Haslemere and District League for the competitive season which started last October. Three of the five teams finished in the top few places in the various divisions and the club’s star player, Tim Hampton, finished top of the Division One averages having lost only one game all season.

The club has also entered teams and individuals into Haslemere and District Table Tennis Association (HDTTA) organised events and tournaments as well as holding its own tournaments for both junior and adult members.

The club was started by Tony Smith, the chairman, with the help of grants from East Hampshire District Council, Hampshire councillors, Radian and the HDTTA.

Tony said: “We knew there was a demand for table tennis in Petersfield but we have been surprised and encouraged by the continuing growth and popularity of the club. We want to thank everybody who has helped to make the club what it is today.”

Two of the club’s juniors, Archie Phillips and Ryan Castle, won the junior league at Woolmer Hill School in Haslemere and received their medals from Surrey county councillor Nikki Barton.
