PETERSFIELD Table Tennis Club opened its doors almost a year ago this week.

The club has signed up more than 50 members, with ages ranging from nine to 80. There are 17 junior members and more than 35 adults. Monday club nights have been very well supported throughout the year and are set to continue.

The club entered five teams in the Haslemere and District League for the competitive season that started last October and has just finished. Three of the five teams finished in the top few places in the various divisions and the club’s star player, Tim Hampton finished top of the Division One averages having lost only one game all season.

The club has entered teams and individuals into the Haslemere and District Table Tennis Association (HDTTA) organised events and tournaments as well as holding its own tournaments for both juniors and adult members.

The club was started by chairman Tony Smith, with the help of grants from East Hampshire District Council (EHDC), Hampshire Councillors, Radian and the HDTTA. Tony said: “We knew there was a demand for table tennis in Petersfield but we have been surprised and encouraged by the continuing growth and popularity of the club. We want to thank everybody who has helped to make the club what it is today.”

Two of the club’s juniors, Archie Phillips and Ryan Castle, won the junior league last Thursday at Woolmer Hill School in Haslemere, and received their medals from Haslemere Councillor Nikki Barton.
