PETERSFIELD Town Juniors were very sorry to announce the passing of their founder John Wood.
The club was formed by Wood with another parent, David Martin, in 1975, and the first under-12 team played its fixtures at the Avenue.
In 1980 the club moved to new pitches at the Penns playing fields, which included facilities for four changing rooms.
In 1989 the Town Juniors moved to their current home at Love Lane. By 1999 a new building had replaced it, with six changing rooms and a small hall.
As the club has further expanded, there are now home fixtures at both Love Lane and Penns Place every weekend throughout the season.
Petersfield Town Juniors has expanded to 34 teams and 500 members, going from the under-eights through to the under-18s and including a very healthy girls’ section.
A senior men’s team and a ladies’ team have also been formed.
Wood was also one of the founders of the annual six-a-side tournament, which has this year completed its 36th year.
The tournament attracts around 200 teams each year competing over a two-day period from mini’s festival football through to under-18s.
