THE PETERSFIELD Town Juniors Football Club six-a-side tournament saw more than 300 teams compete in a festival of grassroots football at Penns Place.

The whole event is organised and run by club volunteers, with planning starting in January each year, and the atmosphere was electric throughout the weekend.

More than 3,000 players and supporters watched the football, with players ranging from six to 18 years old.

Tournament secretary Julian Chun said: “This has been one of our best tournaments so far with two Petersfield teams coming away as cup winners in the under-15 and under-16 age groups. This is truly fitting for what was our 40th anniversary event. A huge thank you must be said to all of the players and also to the teams of volunteers from within the club and parent helpers.

“The highlight of the weekend was the under-11 girls’ team of Petersfield Lionesses, who took to the stage as runners-up to sing their own team song.”
