PETERSFIELD Triathlon Club (PTC) athletes took part in the final Southern Cross Country League event of the season earlier this month.
The race, which had been re-scheduled because of Storm Ciara, took place around Alice Holt Country Park, which presented the athletes with a challenging, wet and muddy cross country course.
PTC members had some excellent runs, although the change of date resulted in the men being unable to field the requisite five runners for their team.
The men’s team were 19th overall and the ladies’ team, which had more than the necessary complement of three runners, finished in 17th place overall.
The cumulative result for both teams meant a final placing for this event for PTC of 17th out of 23 teams.
Individual results for PTC members at Alice Holt were as follows: Ladies (155 finishers at the event): 49. Sue Godsell, 67. Ginny Hutchinson, 108. Rachel Stock, 117. Bee Pilling.
Men: (220 finishers at the event): 23. Leighton Jones, 55. Ross Gentry, 156. Simon Baggott, 195. Fred McCaig.
This was the final event of six races which run from October through to February each year, with the Alice Holt event pushed back to March this year.
PTC are awaiting the final results for the club’s position at the end of the season.
With the start of the new triathlon season now a matter of weeks away, club members continue to try and beat the weather with weekend cycle rides, midweek training runs and the weekly indoor swimming and strength and conditioning sessions.
