PETERSFIELD Triathlon Club members were out in force at the Bognor Regis sea swim triathlon on Sunday, which became a duathlon due to the sea conditions – 3km run, 27km ride and 5km run.

Overall David Reid took first place, Peter Younghusband second, and David Robbins ninth. Kate Smith was the eighth lady and Rich Roberts was eighth in his age category.

Petersfield Triathlon Club member Julie Gadsden finished 16th out of 24 in her age group in her debut appearance at the Triathlon World Championships in Rotterdam.

Weather in the days leading up to the event had been problematic, with high winds and torrential rain making the technical bike course very dangerous. But the day of the age group races was dry and bright and provided perfect conditions for the race.

Julie was competing in the sprint distance event which consists of a 750m swim in the harbour, a 20km bike ride followed by a 5km run.

Rachel Clay, another Petersfield Triathlon Club member, competed in a sprint triathlon at Thorpe Park.

Rachel won her age category and has qualified for the European Triathlon Championships in Glasgow next year.
