Basingstoke 1 Petersfield under-12 Girls 1: PETERSFIELD under-12 Girls went away to Basingstoke for their second match of the season.

After a 13-0 defeat against Alton on the opening day it was back to basics for the girls’ side, with a change in formation.

Maddy Peel and Izzy Wiles seemed to relish playing with the shackles off, and a prolonged period of attacking play saw Petersfield only just miss out on scoring.

The breakthrough came with a driving run from Peel and sublime pass to Violet Eames. Wiles had a shot at goal and Peel was at the back post to score Petersfield’s first goal of the season.

Basingstoke also had a number of chances, but goalkeeper Hettie Marriot and the dogged Petersfield defence stood firm until a sharper Basingstoke attack seized on some indecision in Petersfield’s defence to score the equaliser.

Basingstoke had three penalty corners in the last five minutes, but Petersfield held on for a share of the points.
