Yateley under-14 Boys 1 Petersfield under-14 Boys 4: PETERSFIELD Hockey Club’s under-14 Boys went into their match against Yateley looking to consolidate their improved form and extend their winning ways.

The early play was fairly even, end-to-end stuff with Yateley getting the first chance but putting their shot wide of the left-hand post. That slight scare only seemed to spur Petersfield on further and after some good interlinking play they secured their first short corner, which was slotted home nicely by Williams. Petersfield worked hard to extend their lead with some neat passing between Chung, Slingsby and Cooke-Priest down the right wing and were nearly rewarded with a second when Francis turned a cross just wide of the left post. Despite some good work down the other flank by Roberts, Petersfield ended the first period just one goal ahead.

Petersfield resumed where they had left off and some neat work down the left wing from Beckley resulted in a shot from the hard-working Ankers going just wide. The Petersfield pressure was beginning to tell on the Yateley defence and a penalty was awarded when a shot from a short corner was stopped by a foot. Williams confidently converted the penalty for his second goal of the match. Wave after wave of Petersfield attacks followed and when Anderson picked out Cooke-Priest on the right another cross resulted in Chung firing home the third. This was shortly followed by a fourth when Francis robbed Yateley of the ball in midfield and some neat passing between Ingham-Thomas and Maughan-Taylor presented Chung with another chance, which was deflected into the net off a Yateley stick.

Yateley mounted a comeback but White in the Petersfield goal made a couple of fine saves and some stout defending by Bell and Slingsby meant the score remained unchanged until a deflected shot gave Yateley something to cheer. The last ten minutes was evenly fought with both sides having further chances, but there were no further goals.
