Bognor under-15s 22 Petersfield under-15s 33: PETERSFIELD under-15s maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a hard-fought win on the road at Bognor.
Petersfield started brightly and made several inroads into the Bognor half with Cummings to the fore, however a poor first scrum and some inconspicuous tackling saw the hosts open the scoring on the left wing after some woeful tackling.
This stirred Field into action and the forwards took the ball on, Cox and Janku smashed and Dodds was always on hand to clear up. Field burst up the right flank and Chads released Tribe who went over from close range.
Castle and Hickman dominated the lineouts for the visitors and Skuttle-Cook and Currie ensured quality ball.
Matthews took the initiative to release his backs and a fine run by Carroll beat the defence to send Johnstone over in the corner. Matthews converted.
England then burst up the right flank, the pack recycled the ball and Matthews put Burt in to score. Matthews converted.
With their tails up and the opposition on the rack, Field went to sleep. The ferocity at the breakdown seen in the opening 20 minutes disappeared, allowing Bognor back into the game. Some ineffective tackling from the visitors saw Bognor score three tries and go 22-19 ahead with ten minutes remaining.
From the restart a fine Robinson run, supported by Barden, took Field to the halfway line. The Bognor defence were split and Matthews sprinted through and touched down, before converting his own try to put Field back in the lead.
From the restart Cummings and Cox combined to smash a hole in the home defence, and Burt picked a good line to sprint clear and seal the game with a well-taken try which Matthews converted.
