Petersfield under-16s 10 Havant under-16s 5: PETERSFIELD Rugby Club’s under-16s remain top of the league after a physical match against Havant.

With their pitches unplayable Havant gladly accepted the offer to play at Penns Place to ensure that this league fixture was fulfilled.

Good captaincy by Casson and intelligent kicking by Kay saw the visitors penned into their own half for much of the first half. Petersfield were unable to convert the pressure into points despite several close encounters. At the break there were no points on the board.

Petersfield started strongly in the second half and after a yellow card was awarded to Havant, Mackintosh went over the line following a well-worked penalty. Havant then responded strongly and Petersfield defended their line fiercely. Eventually the pressure paid off and Havant crossed for a try.

Unhappy at conceding points, Petersfield then went on the rampage and played like men possessed. Continual pressure from the forwards, who were impressive all game, and fine tackling from the backs saw Havant effectively shut out of the game. Renwick-Gray ran strongly at the defence after some good rucking by Hall, Caines and Nicholson to cross the line for the winning try.
