PETERSFIELD under-eight Hurricanes continued their North East Hampshire Youth League education by playing their part in a goal-fest at Liphook on Saturday.
The Hurricanes scored four times as they gave Liphook United Sharks a scare in an entertaining game.
Petersfield striker Taylor Pearce gave the visitors a surprise lead in the opening minutes when he picked up the ball on the right and raced in on goal before firing a low shot past the goalkeeper.
Stung by the early goal, the well-drilled Sharks bit back at regular intervals before Alex Garlant opened his account for the season with a fine effort with his right foot shortly before the break.
The Hurricanes continued to battle in the third quarter, with Benjamin Oru arguably having his best game of the season with a series of timely tackles, the improving Finlay Stafferton getting more involved, James Port making a series of tenacious blocks and Oscar Walker patrolling the midfield to good effect.
And it was Walker’s through ball that allowed Pearce to score his second goal of the game in off the post.
At the other end, Port produced an impressive one-handed save to thwart what seemed a certain Sharks goal as he shared the goalkeeping duties with Connor Redpath.
And the quick-reacting Garlant was on hand in the final quarter to notch his second and the Hurricanes’ fourth goal of the game as he intercepted the Sharks goalkeeper’s throw before coolly slotting the ball into the bottom corner.
