Trojans Veterans 2 Petersfield Veterans 3: A RESOLUTE performance saw Petersfield Veterans prevail against a strong Trojans side.
The league leaders started strongly and put Petersfield under pressure.
After 20 minutes, Trojans’ dominance and attacking flair was rewarded when Cunliffe’s goalline clearance was returned to a Trojans forward at the top of the D, who finished clinically to give the hosts the lead.
Trojans’ dominance continued at the beginning of the second half, and was rewarded when Broadmeadow’s good save from a drag-flicked penalty corner was returned to the top of the D and, again, converted clinically.
Petersfield responded well though and White and Liddle began to take control in midfield, aided by the running of Parker and the focussed Cleife.
The away side clawed their way back into the game when Parker finished at the far post with the handle of his stick after a fine run along the baseline and precise pass from Cornett.
With 20 minutes to go, Davis’ fresh legs gave the visitors a further fillip, and Petersfield drew level when Pruden converted Cleife’s pass after a mazy run.
The visitors went ahead shortly afterwards through a trademark dive from Pruden, squeezing in White’s pass.
This left nine minutes to play out, which Petersfield did through gritty and intelligent defending from the back seven with Williams, in particular, putting his body on the line.
