Newbury & Thatcham Veterans 0 Petersfield Veterans 7: PETERSFIELD Veterans dominated Newbury and Thatcham throughout, but made hard word of breaking them down.

Petersfield were lethargic in the first ten minutes, with shots going wide or the final pass not finding its intended target and turning over possession. Eventually, Cornett’s drive down the right found Dryden-Brownlee in space, whose intelligent flick evaded the diving keeper.

Two further goals followed, from penalty corners. Firstly, Davis’ shot was stopped by a Newbury and Thatcham foot on the line, resulting in a penalty flick that Hulme put away assuredly. White then swept in Hulme’s cross in a slick move.

The hosts were not out of the game and it took timely interventions from Cornelius, Rowland, Wilson and Broadmeadow to maintain Petersfield’s lead. Five minutes before half time, White drove down the inside right channel and found Pruden in space, who rounded the keeper and fired the ball into the net to give the visitors a 4-0 lead at half time.

In the second half Hulme charged through from the left, evading three lunging tackles before calmly slotting the ball in at the far post. He swiftly followed this with a drag-flicked penalty corner to give him his hat-trick.

Pruden completed the scoring when he picked up a good ball from Hulme on his reverse stick, beat the defender and dummied the keeper to give him space to smash the ball into the goal from a narrow angle.
