Petersfield Veterans 9 Winchester Veterans 1: PETERSFIELD Veterans stormed to victory against bottom of the table Winchester Veterans on a wet and windy afternoon.

The home side were on top from the start and were two goals up within 15 minutes thanks to goals from Cleife and Pruden.

Petersfield continued to pour forward and goals from midfielder White and new boy Burns put Petersfield 4-0 up as the half drew to a close.

The best goal of the half was saved for last, as White scored with a reverse strike from the edge of the D that hit the roof of the net to make it 5-0 at half time.

Petersfield were slow out of the blocks after the break and despite a save from keeper McDermott, Winchester scored the rebound with a well-taken deflection.

Stung by the goal the home side upped their work rate and a series of flowing team moves ensued.

Despite the home side’s dominance they didn’t add to their goal tally until midway through the second half, but then two goals came in quick succession, the first in unusual circumstances. With a Petersfield strike heading into the goal, forward Parker plucked it out of the air and tapped in from six inches.

The second, Petersfield’s seventh, was a smart finish from Cornett. Following a short corner strike the ball rebounded to Cornett, who spotted the keeping lying on the floor and deftly lifted the ball into the back of the net.

A late goal by the tireless Davis and another tap in for Parker brought the score to 9-1 at the final whistle.
