Petersfield Veterans 4 Chichester Friars 2: PETERSFIELD Veterans completed a second successive season with a 100 per cent record by winning Wessex Masters League Cup finals day.

The final was a competitive game, with the two sides employing different tactics.

As customary this season, Petersfield’s midfield quartet of Hulme, Liddle, White and Cornett were dominant.

Cleife continued to run hard in this second game of the day, working well with Hulme and White to put the Chichester defence under pressure. Two penalty corners resulted in quick succession, both of which were converted through smart strikes from Cunliffe going under the keeper’s body.

Chichester pulled one back five minutes before half time through a penalty corner after the Petersfield keeper and defence had kept out a series of shots.

They then drew level just before half time when a Chichester centre-forward finished from an acute angle following a characteristic charge from the edge of the D, keeping the ball under close control.

Petersfield exerted more control in the second half and they went ahead following good approach play from Pruden, neatly finished at the far post by Parker.

Broadmeadow, in the Petersfield goal, then made a crucial save sliding out to deny a penalty corner, before White scored his second of the day with a precise strike following a smart interchange between Cornett and Pruden.
