Haslemere Veterans 2 Petersfield Veterans 10: PETERSFIELD Veterans travelled to Haslemere with a 100 per cent record this season.

Within five minutes Field’s Dan Cliefe had won a couple of short corners, which were ruthlessly dispatched by Rich Thompson.

Robin Parker, revelling in the chance to run at speed at an already deflated opposition, soon doubled the lead, the third tapped in after another fine passing move and the fourth after hard work of his own, his reverse stick flick spinning in at the far post. He should have had his hat-trick soon afterwards but inexplicably slapped the ball wide with the goal gaping.

Thompson was instead the first to three goals, flicking the ball in after another short corner strike was blocked. The home side then demonstrated their talents with a well worked goal to bring the score back to 5-1.

The sixth goal was a thing of beauty with Thompson’s driving run from defence resulting in a fine pass to Steve Hulme who deflected the ball across the D to a diving Ian Pruden to convert. Parker then scored his third from close range and Cliefe maintaining his goal scoring run to make it 8-1 at the break.

Pruden grabbed his second goal after a surging Hulme run from well within his own half. Thompson took the score to double figures with another crunching strike from a short corner before Field’s indiscipline saw three cards issued, one to Hulme and two to Matt Davis.

Haslemere grabbed a consolation with the last action of the match after the award of a penalty corner.
