Salisbury Striders 2 Petersfield Veterans 4: AN UNDER-strength Petersfield Veterans side put in a gritty performance against Salisbury Striders to keep their winning run going.
Petersfield started the game slowly, allowing Salisbury to dominate the early exchanges and the hosts took the lead through a deflection.
Gradually, Hulme and Liddle’s endeavour in midfield, supported by the invention of Cornett and Budden, began to give Petersfield the upper hand. Pruden hit a reverse stick strike wide, while Hulme’s flick from a penalty corner was saved on the line.
Eventually Petersfield’s pressure told when Hulme took the ball on the left, dribbled along the by-line and finished from a tight angle.
Shortly afterwards, Petersfield hit both posts following a penalty corner, before a corner routine saw Thompson slam the ball past the Salisbury keeper to give Petersfield a half-time lead.
Petersfield continued to dominate the game and should have doubled their lead when Wilson missed a tap-in from Pruden’s pass. In the next attack, Pruden’s fine reverse stick strike gave Petersfield a 3-1 lead.
Salisbury pulled one back when the Petersfield defence fell asleep, and Broadmeadow then made a smart challenge in the Petersfield goal to prevent Salisbury from drawing level.
Petersfield’s response was almost immediate, with Casabianca stabbing home from five yards out to make it 4-2 to the visitors.
Salisbury put pressure on the Petersfield defence, but the visitors held firm.
