Petersfield Veterans 8 Guildford Veterans 1: PETERSFIELD Veterans won a largely one-sided game, aided by Guildford not having a keeper.
When Pruden, White or Liddle got into good scoring positions the kicking back was smartly in position, plucking the ball out of the air with his stick. Eventually, Hulme found some space and slotted the ball home from close range. Cleife and Parker put good chances wide, before Pruden scored with two trademark reverse-stick shots low into the corner of the goal. Guildford then started to dominate play, putting the Petersfield goal under pressure. Their pressure was rewarded with three penalty corners, the first of which Broadmeadow in the Petersfield goal did well to keep out. Towards the end of the half, Petersfield were awarded a solitary penalty corner, but Thompson’s effort lacked the necessary power.
The second half started with Petersfield in the ascendency, and Thompson swiftly took the lead to four goals with a penalty corner, this time fiercely struck into the bottom right-hand corner. The Guildford kicking back continued to frustrate the Petersfield forwards, until his game was ended prematurely when saving an effort from Cleife. Petersfield’s dominance then began to tell, with two more goals for Pruden and one more each for Hulme and Thompson. Just before the end, Guildford scored a consolation goal, neatly slipping the ball under the advancing Petersfield keeper.
