Petersfield Veterans 7 Haslemere Masters 4: PETERSFIELD Veterans prevailed in a pulsating game during which, at times, it appeared they were throwing away the league title.

Haslemere took the lead after ten minutes through a first time effort from the top of the D past Broadmeadow in the Petersfield goal. The visitors added a second five minutes later when Ashworth finished with aplomb.

Petersfield pulled a goal back ten minutes before half time when Davis’ pass from the left found Cleife, who rifled the ball home.

Five minutes later Parker found Cleife in space. A deft body swerve took Cleife past the Haslemere keeper and he chipped into the net to bring the scores level at half time.

Petersfield took the lead early in the second half through a well worked penalty corner involving Cleife and Hulme, which was neatly finished by White diving in at the left-hand post.

Haslemere responded with two quick goals to regain the lead. First Francis finished from a well-worked penalty corner, and then Ashworth flicked the ball over Broadmeadow after his initial shot was saved.

Petersfield then began to dominate, and Pruden finished with a reverse stick shot from Parker’s pass to make it 4-4. Parker finished well from Pruden’s pass to make it 5-4, and Cleife completed his hat-trick with a defensive push into the net. Pruden completed the scoring with a neat deflection from White’s ball into the D.

The victory meant Petersfield won their third league title in as many seasons.
