Salisbury Striders 2 Petersfield Veterans 7: PETERSFIELD Veterans put a strong Salisbury side to the sword in a fine display of attacking hockey.

Petersfield started the game slowly with Salisbury dominating the game through playing crisp, passing hockey. Eventually, Petersfield’s attacking flair told when Cleife fought his way into the D and slammed the ball into the net to the right of the Salisbury keeper.

Pruden scored Petersfield’s second and third goals from close range – the first an outrageous reverse stick flick and the second a one-handed finish following a breakdown at a short corner.

Salisbury pulled one back through a nicely worked drive down the right wing and an easy finish at the far post following Broadmeadow’s two initial saves.

Petersfield re-instated their three-goal lead through Thompson’s thunderbolt short corner, which hit the backboard before the keeper moved. Pruden completed the scoring for the first half with a precise flick from six yards out to make it 5-1.

Petersfield continued to dominate in the second half and Pruden added two more goals to take his tally to five, both through smart finishes from Hulme passes.

Just before the end Salisbury reduced the deficit through another drive down the right wing, with the two unmarked forwards at the far post having a simple task to convert the chance.

The 7-2 scoreline reflected Petersfield’s cutting edge in what was otherwise a competitive game of hockey.
