Petersfield Veterans 8 Trojans Veterans 0: PETERSFIELD Veterans toppled the league leaders with an assured performance.

The Petersfield midfield started well, but when Trojans had possession their attacks were fast and direct and it took a goal line clearance from Thompson plus a couple of sharp saves from Broadmeadow in the Petersfield goal to prevent Trojans going ahead.

The home side’s midfield pressure began to tell and a series of penalty corners were awarded.

Thompson’s first attempt was hit well wide, the second was superbly saved by the Trojans keeper diving to his right and a further three efforts were defended.

Petersfield’s dominance was rewarded when Budden skipped into the D and caressed the ball into the bottom corner after picking up an early pass from Cleife.

Petersfield ran riot in the second half as Trojans began to tire. After five minutes, Pruden scored his first, picking up Hulme’s pass at the edge of the D, drawing the keeper and flicking it into the open net. This was swiftly followed by two diving reverse stick tap-ins to complete his hat-trick.

Cleife then stepped up to the plate and also collected a hat-trick. The first was slammed past the keeper’s left after Cleife picked the ball up at the top of the D, the second was a smart finish from the byline at a penalty corner and the third was swept under the keeper.

Dryden-Brownlee completed the scoring when he converted Cunliffe’s precise pass to the far post.
