PETERSFIELD’S ladies’ second team crashed to a comprehensive 9-0 defeat against Haslemere Ladies’ third team on Saturday.
The away team’s first attack came in the first five minutes, but Ashleigh Keech intercepted and cleared the ball in the D with two attackers waiting to jump on any mistakes.
Haslemere’s first short corner and first goal followed not too long afterwards.
The well-worked short corner was saved and cleared by Petersfield twice, only to fall to Haslemere attackers who put the ball back into the D at pace.
At the third time of asking, the defence was breached and the goal was scored.
Petersfield’s defence fought hard throughout the game but found it challenging to break out of their own half as Haslemere decided to camp out in attacking positions.
Evie Owsnett made several impressive stops and clearances in defence to keep Haslemere at bay, only to see the ball back in the D a few moments later.
Haslemere finished the first half 4-0 up having had nine short corners during the half.
The visitors started the second half in the same style as they ended the first with a well-worked short corner, which again was well saved and defended by Petersfield, only to see goal five go in from the fourth wave of attack.
Rolling substitutions by Petersfield helped keep the team going in the second half, but by the time the last goal went in after a goalkeeping and defensive error the team were almost out on their feet.
