PETERSFIELD Hockey Club’s ladies’ second team slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Romsey Ladies’ third team on Saturday.

The home side started brightly and broke into the D in the first minute, but Sue Amesbury cleared the danger.

Petersfield’s best attacks of the first half came from raking balls from Debbie Geer into Izzy Wiles and Lola Day, who were unlucky to see their shots just go wide.

In the second half Petersfield played a short corner to Zoe Simmonds, who saw her well-hit shot go just past the right-hand side of the goal.

It look a defensive lapse from Petersfield to break the deadlock with a hit out from the 16-yard line going to a Romsey attacker, who had a clear run at goal. A deflected save from a rushing Carys Pearson couldn’t stop the ball falling kindly to the hosts, and the ball was poked into an empty goal with a number of Petersfield players sliding back to try to intercept.

The visitors responded well and Day and Wiles made a number of runs up the right-hand side of the pitch.

Petersfield duly equalised when Day drew the Romsey goalkeeper out and passed to Wiles, who hit the ball into the empty goal to make it 1-1.

The visitors pushed for a winner, but it was Romsey who scored next to earn the win.

The home side broke away down the left-hand wing, and the ball was crossed to an unmarked Romsey player at the back post who scored the winning goal.
