PETERSFIELD Hockey Club’s men’s second team slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Salisbury’s third team on Saturday.
An early breakaway saw Salisbury take the lead with a clear shot on goal which just slipped in past the keeper.
Petersfield then woke up and leapt to the challenge, pushing forward into the Salisbury D with Plewes, King and T Cooke-Priest all pestering the keeper for a score.
The Petersfield defence were also busy, and a short corner was kept out by some textbook defending by J Cooke-Priest and Black.
Petersfield returned to the Salisbury half and kept pressing. Bott pushed into the D, and eventually Plewes slipped the ball back for McDermott to level the scores and make it 1-1.
The play intensified in the second half and Petersfield got a short corner but failed to find the back of the net.
Salisbury took advantage with a breakaway, but good defence from Brockwell and Budden saw Salisbury beaten back. Petersfield conceded a short corner which Housden closed down, but within minutes Salisbury went 2-1 up.
Petersfield pushed for an equaliser, but they were unable to strike as they fell to a close defeat.
