Fleet & Ewshot IV 0 Petersfield III 8: PETERSFIELD’S third team earned a comprehensive win against Fleet and Ewshot’s fourth team.

The opposition barely had time to blink before Petersfield had stolen possession and launched the first of many surging attacks.

The ball was worked at searing pace through B White and Ankers in midfield, who found Maughan-Taylor wide on the right.

A quick ball found Cooke-Priest on the wing, who threaded his cross through the defence for Verney to slap into the back of the net.

There were less than two minutes on the clock and Petersfield were already 1-0 up.

Petersfield’s pace and determination to pressurise the ball carrier meant Fleet and Ewshot had no opportunity to gain any momentum.

Petersfield dominated possession and launched a series of attacks on Fleet and Ewshot’s defence, leading to a series of penalty corners.

A well-executed set piece led to the second goal. B White injected the ball to Clay, who rolled the ball forward for Verney to dummy drag flick and pull the ball wide for B White, who came in on the near post to slot past the keeper.

Further goals from Cooke-Priest and Verney put Petersfield 4-0 ahead at the break.

The second half continued at the same pace. Bell and Price worked hard on the left to set Ankers up with a reverse hit from the top of the D and goal number five.

Verney added another three goals to take his own tally to five as Petersfield ran out 8-0 winners.
