Aldershot & Farnham VI 0 Petersfield III 2: FOLLOWING their triumphant success as under-14 league winners last season, many of the team have graduated into the senior division and now form the backbone of Petersfield’s new men’s third team.

The youngsters found their form at senior level on Saturday, with a decisive 2-0 win against Aldershot and Farnham.

Petersfield dominated possession from the start and much of the first 20 minutes was fought in the opposition’s half.

With Aldershot and Farnham on the back foot and Petersfield pushing players forward, the play became congested in the scoring zone and despite having many attacks Petersfield struggled to create a clean shot on goal.

The deadlock was broken midway through the first half with Petersfield converting from a well-executed short corner. Wassenburg striking cleanly from a clinical injection from F Slingsby.

Aldershot and Farnham fought back, with both teams testing each other’s defence.

The home side were awarded a short corner in the last quarter.

The ball was struck high and then deflected into Petersfield’s goal, but the goal was disallowed.

Petersfield launched a fast-paced counter attack, with the ball pinging through the midfield out to the right.

A trademark surge from Ankers found Hancox accelerating in on the back post, and he neatly slotted past the keeper to put Petersfield comfortably two ahead.
