WITH weather postponing matches earlier in the season, Petersfield’s men’s third team had a weekend of games to catch up on.

Petersfield hosted Aldershot and Farnham’s sixth team on Saturday.

The home side started well and quickly broke down the visitors’ defence and created an early, well-worked goal for T McDermott.

Aldershot and Farnham were under constant pressure for the rest of the first half, but Petersfield squandered a number of chances and were unable to extend their 1-0 advantage.

Petersfield continued to miss chances in the second half, but they kept a clean sheet and won the game 1-0.

The third team reconvened on Sunday for a home match against Fleet and Ewshot’s fourth team.

Petersfield took the lead with a well-executed penalty corner finished by Ankers.

Goals two and three followed in quick succession from D McDermott and J Cooke-Priest.

Petersfield led 3-0 at half time, but the visitors pulled two goals back in the second half to make it 3-2.

Petersfield reacted well and immediately started working the ball back into Fleet and Ewshot’s half.

The home side scored three more goals, with two for J Cooke-Priest and a fine run by Ankers sealing a convincing 6-2 victory.

The two wins meant Petersfield’s third team finished the season in fifth place in the Hampshire Division 9 North (Men) table.
