PETERSFIELD Triathlon Club held its fifth sprint triathlon event at Churcher’s College on Sunday.
More than 300 athletes entered this year’s event and completed a course of a 400m swim, 29km cycle and 5km run, all in the spectacular surroundings of Petersfield.
The winning male and first overall was David Reid, of Petersfield Triathlon Club, who finished the event in 1hr, 6min and 13secs.
Chris Birch finished in second place in a time of 1hr, 17 min and 33secs, and John Potter finished in third place in a time of 1hr, 21min and 18secs.
Alexander Johnson finished in fourth place in a time of 1hr, 22min and 9secs, and Scott Jenkins finished in fifth with a time of 1hr, 22min and 20secs.
The winning female and 17th overall was Jackie Field, who finished in a time of 1hr, 26min 32secs.
Petersfield Triathlon Club race director Simon Russell said: “This year’s sprint triathlon went well and we had a higher turnout than last year.
“The sun shone just about for us and I would like to thank all of our sponsors and volunteers.
“We had more than 50 local volunteers and several local companies sponsored this year’s event.”
Once again, the club raised money for FitzRoy, a Petersfield-based charity working with people with disabilities. “We’ve raised at least £4,000 for FitzRoy this year, which is a good amount,” said Simon.
The date has already been set for next year’s sprint triathlon event, which will be held on Sunday, September 24.
