IT WAS a tale of two contrasting days for the Ken Hall Trophy on the Bank Holiday weekend.

While Sunday’s action went ahead as planned at the Manor Farm Circuit, Langrish, Monday’s scheduled programme was cancelled due to the rain.

Derek Herbert, who runs the Facebook page for the Ken Hall Trophy, said: “Sunday was excellent.

“The track was a bit wet in practice, but as the day went on the track became grippy and the guys loved it.

“We had good racing throughout Sunday.

“Unfortunately the rain we had on Sunday night and Monday morning destroyed the circuit.

“The medics couldn’t guarantee that they could get on the track quickly enough if there was an accident.

“We had to make the decision at 8.20am on Monday morning to cancel the day’s racing, which was very disappointing.

“It’s a shame as that’s now two years on the trot that we have been affected by the weather.”

While Monday’s washout was disappointing for everybody involved with the Ken Hall Trophy, Derek was in no doubt what his highlight was on Sunday.

Derek said: “The highlight on Sunday for me was the Twin-Shock racing.

“The bikes were from the 70s and they were racing really close and doing big jumps.”

Derek also thanked everybody who supported this year’s event.

He said: “I’d like to thank the riders for turning up, the spectators, and the club members for all their work.

“We usually have a solo support race on the Monday for the people who put out the fencing and get the circuit ready – that’s their prize for doing the hard work.

“Everyone who was meant to race in this year’s solo support will get preferential choice to race next year.

“If anyone doesn’t take up that option then we could allow other helpers to race in next year’s solo support.”

Next year will be a momentous year for the Ken Hall Trophy, as it will mark 50 years since the inaugural races.

Derek said: “Next year will be the biggest one yet.

“The track is only used once a year and it is one of the most spectacular courses – the jumps are huge.”
