ON THE middle Sunday of Wimbledon, more than 30 players of all ages turned up for Rogate Tennis Club’s ‘rusty racquets’ open day.

This formed part of the Great British Tennis Weekend promotion to encourage more families to play tennis and to join local clubs.

Richard Hopp, the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) registered coach who runs coaching sessions at Rogate, engaged the children in mini tennis sessions and also encouraged the adults to pick up a racquet to try it out or to refresh past skills.

The club had ensured there were plenty of umbrellas available to protect the strawberries and cream and homemade cakes from the sun, and a copious supply of tea had also been laid on for the day.

Everybody who came along had a good time, and the club also achieved its aim of enticing several new members to join the club.
